With Sunday came the news that Lou Piniella's retirement would be moved up, effective after yesterday's game. The only tribute the team could throw together in that amount of time was a 16-5 loss to the Braves. If you're up for a tear-jerker, dare to watch the last press conference of Lou's managerial career.

The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that injured Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez will rehab with the Chiefs this weekend starting with the Saturday 6:30 p.m. game against Quad Cities. The injured Ramirez will also play for the Chiefs on Sunday at 1:00 against Quad Cities in the final game of the first half. Tickets for the rehab games are currently on sale online at www.peoriachiefs.com, by calling 1-866-MYTICKET and at the O’Brien Field Box Office which is open today until 5:00 p.m. Season ticket holders have priority on seat selection until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, however, tickets are still available for the general public immediately.

Ramirez, 31, has been on the disabled list since June 10 with a left thumb contusion. He has appeared in 47 games for the Cubs this season batting .168 with five home runs, six doubles and 22 RBI. Ramirez last played on June 7 when he pinch-hit at Pittsburgh and his last start was June 6 in Houston. Last season Ramirez hit .317 with 15 homers and 65 RBI in just 82 games while battling through injuries. He rehabbed for the Chiefs in three games July 3-5, 2009 and was 3-for-6 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.

Ramirez had a stellar 2008 season when he received the Hank Aaron Award as the most outstanding offensive performer in the National League. He finished the 2008 season with 27 homers, 111 RBI, 44 doubles and a .289 batting average. Overall in his career spanning 13 seasons, the seventh-year Cubs third baseman holds a .286 average and has clubbed 269 homers while driving in 968 runs and tallying 1,533 hits. Ramirez was acquired by the Cubs in July of 2003 along with outfielder Kenny Lofton from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for infielder Bobby Hill. In that season, the right-handed hitting slugger helped lead the Cubs to their first division title in 14 seasons and their first postseason series win since 1908. It is not known how many at-bats Ramirez will take each game so fans are encouraged to show up early to each contest.

Season ticket holders have priority on seat selection until 5:00 p.m. on Friday. However, tickets are still available for the general public immediately by calling 1-866-MYTICKET, online at www.peoriachiefs.com or at the O’Brien Field Box Office. The Box Office is open until 5:00 p.m. on Friday and will reopen Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Due to the Major League rehab, the Never-A-Wasted ticket policy is suspended for both games. There is limited availability for the Suites and Party Areas on Sunday while those areas are sold out for Saturday’s game.

Saturday is King of Pop Night at O’Brien Field with a 6:30 p.m. start. The entire night will be a tribute to Michael Jackson capped by a post-game concert fro m Who's Bad, a world renowned Michal Jackson Tribute band. Who's Bad will perform at home plate following another phenomenal O'Brien Field Fireworks show. Before the Fireworks there will be a Pitch-In for Charity Tennis Ball Toss after the game with the proceeds going to March of Dimes with a chance to win a 60” LG HDTV provided by Sherman’s.

The Chiefs and River Bandits finish the first half of the season on Sunday June 20 with a 1:00 p.m. Father’s Day game and ALL FATHERS get in free with their families. The gates will open at 11:30 a.m. and father’s can play catch in the outfield for 45 minutes with their children. Kids 12 and under eat free with a free hot dog and free soda. Kids can run the bases after the game and the Chiefs players will sign autographs on the concourse. Sunday is also Super Hero Day with appearances by Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Wolverine. Ramirez is the second Cubs player to rehab for the Chiefs in 2010 following Ted Lilly’s win over Burlington on April 19 at O’Brien Field. In addition to Ramirez and Lilly, the rehab list since the affiliation change in 2005 includes: Nomar Garciaparra, Kerry Wood (2005, 2006 & 2007), Mark Prior, Reed Johnson, Angel Guzman, Juan Mateo, Wade Miller, Scott Williamson, Henry Blanco, Scott Eyre and Jon Lieber.

If Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez could hit again, the comparisons of the Cubs' offense to the effects of an enlarged prostate would stop. But until things get flowing properly, here are 10 suggestions to help the slow, unpredictable trickle of corner-infield hits to get back to the rushing stream of extra-base hits we all expected.

Harry Caray

This isn't an anniversary of any significance that I know of. I was just remembering this morning how much fun Harry Caray was to listen to. Sometimes he personified excitement. Other times he defied explanation. But it was never, ever boring to listen to. For all his rough edges, he was a broadcasting genius and a marketer's dream. And I miss hearing what he would have said about this team . . . or this world.

Armando Galarraga
The perfect reaction to a terrible call.

I didn't even know who Armando Galarraga was until last night. From the 15 seconds of video I've seen of him (80,000 times in the last 12 hours) he seems like the greatest pitcher and finest human being ever to grace the city of Detroit. He's being lauded as the first pitcher ever to record a 28-out perfect game, because Jim Joyce blew the call on the would-be final out.

Of course, he wouldn't have had the opportunity to deprive Detroit of celebrating its first ever perfecto, the 21st in Major League history, and the third in less than a month if it hadn't been for Austin Jackson's convincing Willie Mays impersonation. And, yes, those last two links are to the same video. Jackson saved perfection a mere two plays before Joyce spread his arms outward and flew Galaragga's dream into oblivion.
