Capuano will start on Thursday
Left-hander Chris Capuano will make his first start of this season on Thursday which will be his first start since 2007. Manny Parra, who started on Saturday in an 8-6 win for the Brewers, will be bumped from the starting rotation to make room for Capuano. Parra pitched three innings and gave up 6 hits, 3 walks, and 3 earned runs.
Capuano had an opt-out clause in his contract dated for May 20th, but agreed to push the date back 9 more days to the 29th to give him a couple more starts in Nashville. Well a day before his out clause would have kicked in, allowing him to walk away as a free agent if he was not on the Major League roster, Cappy was called up and Claudio Vargas was designated for assignment to make room for him.
Capuano will match up with Florida Marlin’s Josh Johnson who has a 5-2 record with an amazing ERA of 2.19. Johnson’s last time out against the Phillies was a memorable one at that. He gave up only one unearned run which snapped a 20 scoreless inning streak. While he had a stellar pitching performance, Johnson could not match the Phillies’ Roy Halladay’s perfect game. Halladay pitched the 20th perfect game in MLB history and the second this year.
